Course objectives:
- Review the underlying conditions and existing risk factors that may increase susceptibility to medical emergencies during dental treatment.
- Recognize the alarming signs of medical emergencies.
- Familiarize with the most updated preventive and management guidelines for those medical emergencies.

Dr. Tim Hodgson
FDS (OM) RCS FRCP
Bio:
Tim Hodgson, Consultant in Oral Medicine/Honorary Associate Professor was appointed Medical Director of the Specialist Hospitals Board UCLH in 2014. He held the Clinical Director post at The Eastman Dental Hospital for six years.
He obtained Membership of the Royal College of Physicians (UK) in 1998 and was awarded Fellowship by in 2021. FDS RCS (Eng) was completed in 1998. He became a specialist in Oral Medicine in 2003.
He has 90 citations. His original papers focus on the oral manifestations of HIV infection in both the UK and Africa, HHV8 and CMV transmission in Africa, therapeutic interventions for oral mucosal disease and patient centred outcome measures. His papers have won awards at the BSOM EAOM and AAOM.
He was awarded an honorary FGDP(UK) in March 2008. He was awarded an Erasmus+ staff mobility fellowship for teaching (2014) as visiting Professor to the University of Zagreb, Croatia. He was awarded the AJ Herman fellowship by the University of Western Australia in 2017.
Prof. Rícheal Ní Ríordáin

Bio:
Rícheal Ní Ríordáin is a Professor of Oral Medicine in University College Cork (UCC) Ireland and honorary Associate Professor of Oral Medicine at the University College London (UCL) Eastman Dental Institute, London UK. Having completed her dental degree and PhD in Oral Medicine in Cork, she moved to the UK and completed her medical degree and higher specialist training in Oral Medicine in London. Professor Ní Ríordáin has worked both in medicine and dentistry and her research interests include patient reported outcomes, core outcome sets and educational research with an MA in Higher Education.
