Course Objectives:

  • Discuss the biologic science behind predictable success in non-surgical root canal treatment
  • Understand how advancements in metallurgy and instrument design have been combined to create a shaping system which adheres to a philosophy focused on dentin preservation
  • Understand the concept of pericervical dentin conservation
  • Understand the attributes of various irrigating solutions and advanced delivery and activation tools which take advantage of recent material advancements to combat bacteria
  • Discuss the fundamentals of the dental operating microscope.
  • Realize the merits of working under magnification and illumination

10:00 – 11:00 Heat treated rotary endodontic files: hype or reality?
11:00 – 12:00 Kinematical consideration in mechanical root canal preparation: Countious rotation, Reciporation or both
12:00 – 13:00 Prayer / Lunch
13:00 – 14:00 Biological preparation of the root canal system: intracanal irrigation and beyond
14:00 – 15:00 Demo on ergonomics considerations when using the operating meicroscope
15:00 – 15:30 Prayer / Coffee Break
15:30 – 16:30 Micro-training and hands on training on root canal preparation
16:30 – 17:30 Micro-training and hands on training on root canal preparation

Prof. Khaled Balto

BDS, DMSc.

Bio:

Prof. Khaled Balto graduated from King Abdulaziz University, Faculty of Dentistry in Jeddah Saudi Arabia.  He earned a Clinical Certificate of Endodontics and a degree of Doctor of Medical Sciences in Oral Biology from Harvard University, School of Dental Medicine.  He received the Krakow Award from Harvard University for outstanding research, clinical achievements  and professionalism.

Currently, he is a Professor and Consultant of Endodontics at King Abdulaziz University, Faculty of Dentistry in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
