Solve the Mystery: Clinical Cases Challenge
This round table discussion offers a unique and interactive learning experience designed for oral healthcare professionals eager to hone their diagnostic skills. Attendees will be divided into two groups, each guided by an expert facilitator, to engage in solving challenging clinical cases, simulating real-world oral medicine mysteries. Participants will have the opportunity to collaborate, share insights, and apply critical thinking to diagnose complex scenarios. Through dynamic group interactions and expert guidance, attendees will deepen their understanding of diagnostic processes, improve problem-solving skills via proposing management modalities.
Course Objectives:
- Analyze clinical data & formulate differential diagnoses through the discussion of complex clinical cases.
- Discuss the diagnostic processes leading to the final diagnoses.
- Incorporate evidence-based practices to formulate clinical decisions regarding appropriate management modalities.

Speakers:
Prof. Marco Meleti
DDS, PhD
Bio:
Marco Meleti graduated in Dentistry in 2002, at the University of Parma, Italy. He earned his PhD in Oral Sciences at the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery/Oral Pathology of the Free University Medical Center – Amsterdam, The Netherlands (2008).
Currently he is Professor of Oral Surgery at the University of Parma. He is the President of the European Association of Oral Medicine (2023-2025), Vice-president of the Italian Society for Laser in Dentistry (SILO).
His main research topics include innovative approaches in oral surgery, oral oncology, laser in dentistry and salivary diagnostics. Author of 180 peer-reviewed indexed in scopus (h-index: 30).
Dr. Vidya Sankar
DMD, MHS, RCSEd
Bio:
Dr. Sankar received her DMD, completed a GPR, and served as Staff Dentist in the Infectious Disease Clinic from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine. She practiced general dentistry in New Jersey prior to earning her Certificate in Oral Medicine from the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research. She was a recipient of the Sjögren’s Foundation Fellowship, received her Master’s in Health Science degree from Duke University and is certified by the American Board of Oral Medicine (ABOM) and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Dr. Sankar’s is an Associate Professor, Division Director for Oral Medicine, and Program Director for the TUSDM Oral Medicine Residency at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. Previous positions include Oral Medicine Clinical Director with tenure at UTHSC San Antonio, Clinic Director Brigham and Women’s Hospital Oral Medicine and Dentistry clinic, Co-Director of the Oral Medicine and Oncology clinic at Dana Farber Cancer Institute. She currently Immediate Past-President of the American Academy of Oral Medicine and she serves as Board member and Treasurer for the Sjogren’s Foundation.
Prof. Nikolaos Nikitakis
MD, DDS, PhD
Bio:
Professor Nikolaos G. Nikitakis received his DDS and MD from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Greece and his PhD from the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), USA. He is Diplomate of the ABOMP and Fellow of the AAOMP and AAOM. He has also completed a sabbatical in the School of Dentistry and MD Anderson Cancer Center in the University of Texas, Houston (UTH), USA.
Prof. Nikitakis is currently the Dean, as well as Professor and Chair, Department of Oral Medicine & Pathology and Hospital Dentistry, in the School of Dentistry, NKUA.
He has published over 275 peer-reviewed scientific papers and 200 abstracts, with approximately 3.800 citations and h index: 36 on Scopus and 6.300 citations and h index: 46 on Google Scholar. He is author of a textbook in Contemporary Oral Medicine and Pathology and of several chapters in other textbooks and handbooks. He serves in the Editorial Board of various scientific journals.
