Restoring Smiles: Teeth Splinting and Composite Buildup Techniques for Traumatised Teeth in Children
Abstract and objectives of the workshop:
- A comprehensive overview of teeth repositioning/replanting and splinting techniques.
- Participants will learn about indications for splinting, types of splints, materials used, duration of splinting and post-splint care.
- Focus on composite buildup for managing fractured anterior teeth in children using clear strip crowns.
- Participants will gain insights into case selection, shade matching, layering protocols, and finishing/polishing methods tailored for young patients
- To enhance the participants’ clinical skills and confidence in managing dental injuries in children including the delivery of durable and aesthetically pleasing restorations, ensuring optimal outcomes for young patients.

Dr. Alaa Bani Hani
BDS, MSc, PhD
Bio:
Dr. Alaa Bani Hani is a Consultant in Paediatric Dentistry at Kings College Dental Hospital. She is the chair of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry Teacher’s Branch, and the Teacher’s Branch representative at the Quality Improvement Research and Committee. In addition, she is a member of the Royal College of Surgeons-Edinburg Specialty Advisory Board in paediatric dentistry and a member of the British Society of Paediatric Dentistry Media team. Alaa obtained the Bachelor Degree in Dental Surgery in 2006. Following that she worked as a General Dental Practitioner for three years before she obtained her clinical masters in Paediatric Dentistry in 2010. In 2016, she was awarded PhD in Peadiatric Dentistry from School of Dentistry, University of Leeds-UK. Following that she was appointed as NIHR funded a Clinical Lecturer and Specialty Registrar in Paediatric Dentistry at University of Leeds and Leeds Dental Institute in 2017-2021. Alaa became a specialist in paediatric dentistry in 2021 and a consultant in 2023. Alaa was awarded the first poster prize at the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry in Turin-Italy (2017) for her PhD work and the second poster prize at the Health Education England Academic Presentation Day in York (2017) for Clinical Lecturers category for her collaborative research project “Raised in Yorkshire: Supporting School Children to Undertake Oral Health Projects”. The latter won the University of Leeds Public Engagement award for doing research in partnership in 2017.
