Flipping the classroom: Student-led digital complete denture innovation
Course Objectives:
- Understand the flipped classroom model and its application in dental education for digital complete denture fabrication.
- Develop proficiency in digital workflows and CAD software for designing and fabricating complete dentures.
- Foster student-led learning initiatives that enhance collaboration, critical thinking, and problem-solving in prosthodontics.
Course Program:
13.30 -14.30 | How to take a more active role in their learning process. This session highlights how student-led projects in digital complete denture fabrication foster creativity, critical thinking, and hands-on experience with digital tools. |
14.30- 15.30 | Incorporating computer-aided design (CAD) software and digital workflows, students engage in designing, fabricating, and problem-solving real-world denture cases. |
15.30-16.30 | Understanding the flipped classroom model which encourages students to lead discussions, present case studies, and collaborate with peers, while faculty act as facilitators and mentors. |
16.30-17.30 | Knowing how this educational strategy bridges the gap between traditional teaching methods and the digital innovation required in modern prosthodontics. The session showcases the benefits of experiential learning, promoting self-directed study, teamwork, and competency in digital denture technology. |

Prof. Sompop Bencharit
DDS, MS, PhD
Bio:
Dr. Sompop Bencharit is a leading figure in dentistry, serving as Professor, Associate Dean for Innovation, and Chief Innovation Officer at High Point University’s Workman School of Dental Medicine. He previously held prominent roles at MUSC College of Dental Medicine and VCU. He earned his DDS and Diploma in Prosthodontics from Chulalongkorn University and advanced his studies at UNC-Chapel Hill, obtaining a Master’s and PhD in Prosthodontics and Oral Biology. A Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics, he is also a Fellow of the ACP, Pierre Fauchard Academy, and International College of Dentists. Dr. Bencharit received the 2021 ACP Distinguished Researcher award and has published over 90 peer-reviewed articles. He holds editorial roles with the Journal of Prosthodontics, PLoS ONE, and Scientific Reports. Additionally, he is involved with the IADR/AADOCR-Prosthodontic Research Group and serves on research committees for the ACP and American Academy of Osseointegration.
