Evidence-Based Dentistry: Applying Research to Clinical Practice- Workshop
Course Objectives:
- Formulate clear, answerable clinical questions using the PICO (Population, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) framework to facilitate effective literature searches.
- Critically appraise scientific studies by evaluating the study design, methods, analyses, and overall validity of the evidence.
- Apply an evidence-based approach to integrate current best research evidence with clinical expertise and patient preferences in order to make well-informed treatment decisions.
Course Program:
09:00 – 10.00 | Introduction of the scientific knowledge, essential for dental professionals to develop skills in evidence-based practice |
10.00 – 11.30 | Interactive workshop discussion on the principles and methods of evidence-based dentistry (EBD). Participants will learn how to formulate clear clinical questions using the PICO framework |
11.30 – 12.00 | Critical appraisal techniques to evaluate the validity and applicability of research findings |
12.00 – 12.30 | Insights into interpreting significance and weighing different levels of evidence |

Prof. Vineet Dhar
BDS, MDS, PhD, FAAPD, FDSRCS (Eng), FICD, FACD
Bio:
Dr. Dhar is a clinical professor and chair of Orthodontics and Pediatric Dentistry and assistant dean of postgraduate and professional studies at University of Maryland School of Dentistry. He currently serves as the Director of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD). He also serves the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) as Member of the Editorial Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the Evidence-Based Dentistry Committee, and as a Consultant of the Council on Scientific Affairs. In addition, Dr. Dhar serves the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry (IAPD) as the Chair of Science Committee. He works on incorporating evidence-based dentistry in education and patient care and serves on AAPD, IAPD, and ADA expert panels to create evidence-based clinical recommendations.
