Diastema Closure and Crown Fracture Restorations in Anterior Esthetics (Hands-on)

 

Course Objectives:

This hands-on course will cover the monochromatic layering techniques for the diastema closure restorations with free-hand layering.

  • Participants can perform diastema closure restorations in a single visit.
  • Participants can perform crown fracture restorations in a single visit.
  • Participants learn about different resin-based composite materials to perform diastema closure and crown fracture restorations.

 

Course Program:

09.00-09.30 Understanding why Direct resin composite restorations are preferred in anterior teeth as well as posterior teeth – mimic the natural dental tissues, with added advantage of being minimally invasive in a single appointment
09.30-10.30 Closing the gaps (diastemas) between the anterior teeth is a common clinical application, especially following orthodontic treatment to enhance the smile esthetics of the patient.
10.30- 11.30 The direct restoration of crown fractures with can be performed minimally-invasively or even without any preparations if the axis, torque, and position of the teeth are in the proper position.
11.30- 12.30 Learning about, functional and esthetic restorations that can be performed with resin-based composites quite effectively in a single visit in daily practice

Dr. Bora Korkut

DDS, PhD

 

Bio:

Dr. Bora Korkut graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Dentistry in 2008. He had the ‘Ph.D.’ and ‘Restorative Dentistry Specialist’ titles in 2015. He has been working as an academic member as an Associate Professor at Marmara University, Dentistry Faculty, Department of Restorative Dentistry.

He has many national and international scientific publications about direct and indirect restorations, pre-restorative clear aligners, tooth bleaching, clinical dental photography, tooth wear, Cad/Cam restorations, magnification in dentistry, and caries diagnosis & management.  He is a certified Invisalign provider. He has participated as an instructor in more than 100 hands-on courses since 2015. He is the author of the ‘Anterior Estetikte Kompozit Restorasyonlar’ book published in Turkish by the Quintessence Publishing Türkiye in 2022 (best seller in the same year). It was translated in English and published by Quintessence Publishing Deutschland in 2024 as ‘Composite Restorations in Anterior Esthetics.’

11.00- 12.30 Attendees will engage in practical exercises, gaining hands-on experience in soft tissue manipulation, provisional fabrication, and guided implant placement.

  • Understanding the Prerequisites for the successful placement of dental implants in an ideal, prosthodontically driven position is the presence of a minimum amount of bone height and width at the recipient site.
  • Knowing the principles of GBR in combination with dental implants, wherein successful bone regeneration around the exposed implant threads can be achieved.
  • Understanding the biologic, technical and material related factors have been associated with the final outcome of these procedures.
  • Critical appraisal of the available evidence provided by a series of experimental and clinical studies
  • Evaluation of the healing potential of the GBR principle with or without the combined use bone grafts under different conditions
  • Understanding the surgical procedures related to factors affecting the healing outcome will be presented and linked to possible clinical scenarios.

Prof. Nikolaos Donos

Bio:

Professor Nikos Donos is the Director of Research, Professor & Chair of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry, at the Centre for Oral Clinical Research (COCR), Institute of Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).

In 2024, Prof. Donos was awarded the prestigious International Association for Dental Research (IADR) Distinguished Scientist in Periodontal Disease Award and the European Federation of Periodontology (EFP) Distinguished Scientist Award. In 2011, he was presented with the IADR- Periodontology Group award in Periodontal Regenerative Medicine and in 2019 the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) Clinical Research Award for his contribution as co-author. In 2004, Professor Donos was awarded the European Association of Osseointegration (EAO)- Basic Science Research Award.

Prof. Donos has published more than 275 peer reviewed publications, is the editor of 5 textbooks and author/co-author of 15 book chapters in the field of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry.

17.30 -18.30 Finishing and polishing of the veneers will be performed, pointing to the best polishing materials and the perfect sequence.

Bio:

Ronaldo Hirata is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomaterials at New York University, with a secondary appointment in the Department of Cariology. He has published over 100 papers in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.  His first book, TIPS, was published in three languages, and his second book, SHORTCUTS, was also published in three languages.

Dr. Hirata just launched his new book, “Recipes for Composite Restorations,” from Quintessence Publishing in three languages, including English. This textbook provides “recipes” with the ingredients and instruments necessary to execute 26 restorations.
